Meet the Doctor

Dr.Vasantha K Kanukuntla earned her Doctor of Optometry degree and Master’s in vision science degree from the UAB School of Optometry as a Beta Sigma Kappa honor student. She gained valuable medical experience during her clinical rotations at Alabama Ophthalmology associates, Retina consultants of Alabama, Simon Williamsons clinic and Kleiman Evangelista eye center in Arlington. Dr. Kanukuntla has specialized training in injections, minor surgical procedures, ophthalmic lasers and basic life support (BLS). Following her Graduation, Dr Kanukuntla worked for few years at Pediatric Eye specialists at Fortworth, Texas, where she was also a volunteer for the Alexander Eye Clinic at Cooks Children’s medical Center. Apart from management of pediatric eye conditions , she has a vast experience in ocular disease and hard to fit contact lenses and anterior segment disease management.


Having more than 20 years of experience in the field of Eye care, Dr. Kanukuntla is happy to see patients of all ages, from infancy to adulthood. She provides comprehensive eye examinations for the detection of medical diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, Dry eyes and diabetes. She provides preoperative and postoperative care for surgical procedures like cataract and LASIK. She specializes in routine eye care for pediatric patients and special needs children. She diagnoses and manages strabismus, amblyopia, and other binocular vision disorders with optical correction, patching and other non-surgical techniques including vision therapy. She provides myopia management using various methods including contact lenses and orthokeratology. She fits soft contact lenses like multifocals, monovision, aphakia and specialty contact lenses including “hard to fit” lenses like scleral and Rigid gas permeable lenses for keratoconus, post corneal transplant, and other corneal degenerations or dystrophies.
Dr. Kanukuntla was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO), a prestigious accolade given by the AAO to individuals who have accredited themselves and Optometry by their contributions to Optometry or Vision Science. She holds active membership with the American Academy of Optometry (AAO). She is a member of scleral lens education society and also a Member of The American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control.
Apart from her passion towards eye care. Dr. Kanukuntla also earned her MBA in Corporate Finance from University of Dallas and has a master’s degree in Human resources. Dr. Kanukuntla and her husband, Sri, are currently living in Irving, Las Colinas with their two daughters Megha and Saanvi. During her free time, she enjoys cooking, listening to music and spending time with family.
