eye doctor reviews in Richardson

I had a wonderful experience as a new patient. Dr. K. is very knowledgeable and helped me to understand more about my eyes and how aging affects vision. This office offers a variety of frames that fit smaller heads which I found particularly helpful. I'm happy to share my experience and recommendation with friends and family.

Just had my routine eye exam, was very welcoming with attention to detail and quality overall service. Dr Vasantha has an "eye" for detail ( literally :D)

We took our 6 year old daughter here for her first eye appointment and had a fantastic experience. The staff was friendly, patient, and excellent with kids. We’ll be transferring our whole family here. Thanks for doing a great job!

Dr. K is amazing. I’ve been dealing with a scar on my cornea for some time. My overall vision was poor and I could not find a solution.I was contemplating a cornea transplant. However, She was recommended to me and now I’m seeing great in contacts. Honestly, it’s done wonders for my self confidence and mood. I couldn’t be any happier with their services. Customer for life.

Great experience at Focus On Eyes today! Doctor was very thorough and made sure my eyes were healthy. Explained why tests were done and what information they showed.

Doctor K is very attentive and thorough! Prior to me finding Focus on eyes, i went to an optometrist who did the basic tests but wasn’t helping me identify the underlying problem as to why my eye sight was getting worse by the day. They just prescribed some eye drops which helped for 2 seconds. The first appointment with doctor K was very thorough, she took a look at my past diagnosis, asked the right questions and took the right tests and as a result, she was able to find out my CORRECT diagnosis and immediately started the treatment. When I say Doctor K saved my eye sight and saved me from a possibility of going blind, it is not an exaggeration! You would be lucky to have her as your doctor!!

I have had Benign Positional Vertigo (BPV) periodically since 1997 with varying degrees of dizziness, a stroke in 2008 with a small loss of bilateral vision, and back problems with two ruptured discs and one disc pinching a nerve that has been known for quite some time. Additionally, I have the genetic Factor V Leiden blood-clotting disorder (heterozygous), and atrial fibrillation. Having both requires me to be on blood thinner, making me a high risk for back surgery. With the vision and back problems, my balance issues have increased with age. Since I am on blood thinner (Coumadin), I go to Legacy Heart Center on a regular basis for INR testing. Near them I saw a sign for the ASARA Balance & Physical Therapy Clinic and made an appointment, since all reviews were good. ASARA resolved my BPV using their state of the art technology after three treatments. They explained to me the many sensors in the body that feed data to the inner ear for balance: the eyes, brain, ears, etc., and explained how the two blind spots in my eyes from the stroke, that were not in the same location, could impact my balance since they were continually adjusting when I turned my head to look elsewhere. When I turned my head to the right, whatever I looked at was a little blurry; but this was not the case when I looked to the left. If I closed one eye at a time, I could see the object clearly with either eye. ASARA thought this neurological brain condition was probably caused by the blood clot that formed in my brain from the stroke and referred me to Dr. Kanukuntla at Focus on Eyes, a neurological optometrist for testing, Dr. Kanukuntla has specialized expertise in Neurovisual Medicine & Binocular Vision Dysfunction(BVD). NeuroVisual Medicine is the optometric subspecialty that identifies and treats BVD and neurological/medical symptoms that originate directly or indirectly in the visual system, which include gait instability and balance problems plus several other symptoms. BVD is a visual problem that affects how both eyes work together. BVD occurs when your eyes are slightly misaligned, meaning they don’t work together in perfect harmony. Each eye may see clearly on its own but not together; they send two slightly different images to the brain. The brain then has to work hard to “fuse” these images into one. BVD can be caused by a stroke and/or vertigo. Dr. Kanukuntla evaluates how the eyes and brain work together through a comprehensive neurovisual (binocular vision) examination. This assessment includes detailed analysis of: • Eye alignment and coordination. • Focusing ability and visual endurance. • How the eyes respond to visual stress and movement. • The connection between the visual and vestibular systems. • How visual input interacts with balance systems. Dr. Kanukuntla did extensive testing to determine if prism glasses would benefit me. During the five hours of testing she determined the amount of prism I needed for glasses. The microprism glass lenses were specially customized based on individual measurements during the exam. These microprism lenses slightly alter the path of light entering your eyes. This adjustment helps align the images from each eye, making it easier for your brain to combine them. Then Dr. Kanukuntla ordered a pair of prism glasses for me and they corrected my problem when I turned my head to the right. What an improvement! I wore them for six weeks prior to my second appointment. Dr. Kanukuntla wanted to do further testing to make further adjustments to reduce the blind spot in the upper quadrant of my left eye. Again, after further testing she had the necessary measurements for my left lens and ordered my second pair. The second pair cured that blind spot and I now wear them every day, and the improved eyesight has made a significant improvement in my balance. I would certainly recommend Dr. Kanukuntla to anyone who has potential BVD balance problems due to their vision.
